La Taniere
Right, this is a little history of the site. So, basically I first set up my website 3 years ago, then it was called "Demeter’s Den" (original I know).I must admit, I was like most amateur sites, pretty crummy. All my graphics where created on paint and consisted of horrible thin yellow boxes, which then saved fuzzily as gifs. I created my first website using the well known geocities page builder, bearing in mind this was before the very annoying frame advertisements you get on it now. I stayed with Demeter's Den for a good couple of months. (As cats fans probably know, when you first get into cats, you can build steam trains with your enthusiasm, Demeter's Den was a bit overly enthusiastic...*ahem*). When I finally decided that, in comparison to other sites, my site was terrible I took a turn in my web design. (Gaining experience in web design from other things I had growing at thee time my skills in HTML, CSS and graphic making) I got my first domain name "http://www.madcatbiz.com".
What? I hear you say, "madcatbiz?? That’s totally random!" you chorus. Well actually it does sort of fit into cats: "mad" "cat" "biz". You see it? No... Okay, "mad" was like to symbolize how fanatical I was, "cat" obviously "CATS" and "biz" business! So in actuality it probably would have been better calling it "fanatical-cats-business" or something, haha. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
It was at this point I changed the name. Ah? But why "La Taniere" Well, it’s actually pretty boring (the name didn’t appear to me in a dream or anything spooky and exiting like that). I found out that Demeter's Den had already been taken... by about FIVE different people, so it was about time I had a change. I liked the idea of a website being a "Den"; however I wanted it to sound a little classier than that. So in a wave of inspiration, I picked up the French dictionary! I looked up Den and surprise surprise the translation was "Taniere". Me being the mad person I am I felt this was worthy. "La Taniere" directly means "The Den", sounds better in French doesn't it?
Right, eventually I wanted to make other websites, and La Taniere just eventually faded out of my mind. I closed the site after a year. My passion for cats had gone...
BUT
When I finally got fed up of madcatbiz, I moved. To the new domain "http://www.randomobsessions.com" which frankly suits me, and any site I choose to make perfectly! After about a half a year of playing around with website ideas and features of my new file manager and all the features that came with it. (You see, I was sick to death of Geocities, which in fact cost about three times as much as my current host, and geocities only offered about half of the bandwidth, domain space etc... I was very glad to see the back of it). After this "honeymoon period” with my new host, my thoughts wandered to La Taniere
and even though I closed it, I actually missed it a LOT. So rebuilding work began, and is still in progress ;)
Who knows what the future will hold for La Taniere...
